Where to Stay in Switzerland - Suvretta House

Where to Stay in Switzerland - Suvretta House

As a guest, it is almost impossible not be impressed by Suvretta House. Located in the breathtaking Swiss Alpine of Upper Engadine, this fairytale castle looking 5-star hotel offered us nothing but unforgettable luxury services and experiences.

After greeted warmly by the hotel staff and the general managers personally, we were led to our beautiful junior suite on the 4th floor. Our suite is equipped with a huge living and sleep space, which is very comfortable for hosting a family of four. The parents get a huge king-size bed and the kids share a big sofa bed together. There are two walk-in wardrobes, which is deeply appreciated since the primary purpose of our stay was a ski holiday and we had a quite a few luggages that packed with ski outfits and regular outfits. The bathroom is also spacious with his and her sinks, a huge bathtub and walk-in shower and separate toilet. Four people can easily navigate and share the bathroom without stepping on each other’s toes, literally. And our favourite feature of the room, of course, is its fantastic view to the Swiss Alps. On both mornings of our stay, we opened up the windows and drank our first cup of coffee (thanks to the complimentary coffee/tea bar) while watching sunrise and snowfalls on slopes of Corviglia and listening to the bird chirping and tweeting. It was a simple, but real pleasure.

Throughout our stay, we ate all our meals in Suvretta House, simply because there were just so many delicious dishes to try. Starting with breakfast, we were so impressed by how organised it was for the guests. Let’s face it, it is not an easy task to serve buffet breakfast during a pandemic with so many social distancing and hygiene regulations, but the hotel did an incredible job. For lunches, unfortunately, we could not eat in the Mountain Hütte restaurants (also part of Suvretta House) as it was closed due to the Swiss national soft-lockdown, but it did not stop us from having the delicious Swiss Cheese Fondue with a stunning view on the Terrace. Every evening, we dined in the cozy Stube that serves Suvretta classics, Swiss specialities and other exotic dishes that the chef Isaac Briceño Obando created based on inspirations from his homeland (Costa Rica) and his previous worldwide travels. Some of our favourite dishes were Foie Gras, Pulled Pork Buns and An Atlantic Sea Bass in Salt Crust. They were all incredible.

Of course, one thing you also must experience while staying at Suvretta House is to have an Afternoon High Tea in the beautiful lobby with the gigantic windows overlooking to the mountains, esp. on a sunny day. The lobby has just gone through a newly renovation, which kept most of its original features updated upholstery. Must admit, even though I was full from lunch, it did not stop me from sampling all the good-looking delicious house-made pastries.

Now, for the ski fans, it is worth noting that Suvretta House is the only luxury hotel in St Moritz that has direct access to the slopes. Even more impressive is that the hotel has a huge state-of-the-art ski room that includes a secured locker for every room. What’s more, the hotel offers in-house ski rental service, ticket office, and ski school. Talk about one-stop shop! For those of us who have skied in various locations, we really appreciate the convenience of all of these kinds of services that the hotel offers.

Spa and pool facilities are also high on our list when we chose a hotel to stay. Suvretta House certainly did not disappoint. Not only does it have a huge pool with floor to ceiling glass windows, a spring board, but also a heated outdoor jacuzzi and many other spa facilities. It was the perfect place to have some more fun and then ease into relaxation after hours on the slopes.

There are also plenty of other entertainments for the guests of all ages, tennis court, in-house ice-skating ring (with option to book a private instructor), vintage bus ride to the mountains, and more. There is also a complimentary shuttle runs every 30 minutes to the St Moritz town centre. When the weather permit, it’s a scenic 40-minute walk. There is just no time to be bored.

Even weeks later after our stay, as I am writing these lines, I still smile when I think of the wonderful stay we had at Suvretta House. Must return in summer, I made a mental note to myself. It must look so different and beautiful. I can’t wait to see it!
