Bawah Reserve: A Hidden Paradise in Indonesia

Bawah Reserve: A Hidden Paradise in Indonesia

“This looks like Maldives and Bora Bora!” I remember telling my husband excitedly as I looked out of the window from the private sea plane when approaching Bawah Reserve. Located in the Anambas Islands, Indonesia, Bawah Reserve is a breathtaking hidden gem that offers unparalleled luxury and serenity.

Travelling to Bawah Reserve is an adventure in itself. The journey started from Singapore, when Bawah Reserve team picked us up in front of our hotel with a luxury van. After that, we were escorted to a ferry to Indonesia and then a car ride to Batam Airport. The trip went very smoothly since Bawah Reserve organised everything thoroughly and we were able to go through immigration and boarding really quickly without queuing.

After arriving at Batam Airport, we were whisked away via a private seaplane to the secluded island. The plane ride was magical, with panoramic views of crystal clear waters and lush greenery. As the seaplane touched down on Bawah Reserve's lagoon, we were greeted with warm smiles and refreshing welcome drinks, setting the tone for a truly exceptional experience.

Accommodation at Bawah Reserve is nothing short of extraordinary. With only 35 private villas, each designed to blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings, guests can enjoy ultimate privacy and seclusion. We stayed in one of Bawah Reserve's “Overwater Bungalows”. The design blended rustic elegance with modern comforts, creating a space that epitomized serenity. Our spacious villa featured floor-to-ceiling windows, offering panoramic views of the ocean and vibrant marine life below. The private deck became our go-to spot for lazy afternoons and romantic evenings under the stars.

Bawah Reserve is a haven for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers. We embarked on various excursions, including snorkeling, kayaking, scuba diving, and sunrise trekking through the pristine rainforest. Snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters revealed a kaleidoscope of marine life, from vibrant coral reefs to playful tropical fish. We also took a sunset boat trip around neighboring islands, each boasting their unique charm and untouched beauty. Another highlight of our activities was the private picnic on the Coconut Beach. On a pristine stretch of powdery white sand, the staff set up a table laid with delicious Indonesian picnic delights, a pavilion with day beds, towels, bluetooth loudspeaker and a strong wifi. The turquoise water was glittering under the sun and inviting us for a refreshing dip.

For those seeking relaxation and rejuvenation, the Aura Spa at Bawah Reserve is the perfect oasis. Nestled among the trees, this tranquil sanctuary offers a range of holistic treatments and therapies to soothe the mind, body, and soul. For each full-day stay at Bawah Reserve, each guest is entitled to an-hour long complimentary spa treatment. We experienced a range of holistic treatments, including a Balinese deep tissue massage, leaving us feeling refreshed and revitalized.

Indulge your taste buds at one of Bawah Reserve's world-class restaurants. The resort's expert chefs create mouthwatering dishes using only the freshest ingredients, many of which are sourced from the island's organic gardens. From sumptuous seafood to international favorites with an Indonesian twist, every meal at Bawah Reserve was a culinary delight. Sometimes, you can even enjoy them under the stars in front of an Outdoor Cinema.

However, what impressed me the most was Bawah Reserve’s commitment to sustainability. Built with a focus on conservation and preservation, this eco-friendly resort is designed to minimize its impact on the environment. From solar panels that provide electricity to filtering systems that ensure water is recycled and reused, Bawah Reserve definitely sets a new standard for eco-tourism.

Boasting stunning natural beauty, pristine beaches, and a focus to sustainability, this private island retreat is a dream destination for those seeking a unique and unforgettable getaway.
