Where to Stay in Mallorca, Spain - Belmond La Residencia

Where to Stay in Mallorca, Spain - Belmond La Residencia

There are some places that just feel right. For me, Belmond La Residencia, one of the most beautiful resorts that we have ever visited, is one such place. Located in the charming artist’s village of Deia (a UNESCO World Heritage village), on the island of Mallorca in Spain, the setting of Belmond La Residencia is simply spectacular. Sitting in the lee of the Tramuntana Mountains and faces the Mediterranean Sea, Belmond La Residencia has two manor houses, a collection of hillside suites, and lush gardens with bugenwilla, palm, olive and citrus trees.

Our suite (No.83) sits right on top of the hill, which has a stunning view to the enormous hotel pool, the Tramuntana mountain range, and the Deia village. It is made of a living room (which has a pull-out couch as bed for the kids), a bedroom, a huge bathroom with walk in wardrobe (such a clever design!!!), and our favorite part, an outdoor Jacuzzi. The interior of the rooms are absolutely beautiful. Love that Spanish and Moroccan vibes . I wish we have those beautiful tiles in our bathroom back home. We spent quite a bit of time on the balcony, kids playing in the Jacuzzi pool, me sitting in the reclining lounge chair in the shade, gazing at Deia’s pretty little houses with their shutters in pastel blue, forest green, and iris.

The food at Belmond La Residencia is phenomenal. In the mornings, we started our day in Son Fony, a Mediterranean restaurant by the pool. The buffet selection is extensive, but not wasteful. Freshly squeezed orange juice, fresh whole fruits, local pastries, cured Spanish hams, and etc. Everything is beautifully presented and taste amazing. The kids love their little Kids’ buffet, too (a lower table packed with boxed cereals and kids favorite snacks). During the day, when we were hungry, we visited resort’s Cafe Miro and enjoyed an excellent selection of tapas. The house-made freshly baked bread dipped with self pressed olive oil (from the olive trees in the resort) tasted like heaven. We didn’t make it to the El Olivo for dinner this trip, but their settings is so beautiful and magical at night and the review is so good. I would love to go there with my husband next time.

The kids were also very excited about visiting the resort donkeys. They are both adorable and very naughty at the same time. At first, they stayed around us and loved our attention of feeding and patting them. However, as we walking out of the gate, one of the running fast after us and trying to escape. We had to rush and push hard on the gate to close it. Can you imagine if we are the responsible for one donkey running loose in the resort, sniffing guests’ bags for food and drinking from the pool? Hilarious it may seems, as my kids thought, I am relieved that it did not happen on our account.

The next day, we joined another small group of guests for the complimentary boat excursion. We drove about the island for about 20 mins and then swam in the open water (in an exclusive bay) for another 40 mins. It was such a relaxing and fun experience.

Another reason that we love Belmond La Residencia so much is for its dedication to art. There are beautiful artworks through out the resort, such as permanent art exhibition, Atelier for local artists, sculpture garden, and sculpture & ceramic workshop for the guests (big and small). I heard that the resort also hosts classical music concerts from time to time, which I am sure would be amazing to experience.

Belmond La Residencia is also very close to the beautiful beach Cala Deia (less than 10 mins drive), which I highly recommend you to visit during your stay. If you want to visit more charming towns like Deia, Valldemonssa and Soller are definitely worth seeing (Check out my Mallorca Guide for more info).

Unfortunately, the magic of the Belmond La Residencia could not make time stand still and we had to say good bye to this wonderful resort after our two day’s stay. We know for certain that we’d love to come back next summer!

*We are invited as guests to stay with Belmond La Residencia. All opinions are my own.
